Cookies-are tools which are sometimes used for user-tracking, a common concern in the field of privacy.

Data logging-Many programs and operating systems are set up to perform date logging of usage. This may include recording times when the computer is in use, or which web sites are visited. If a third party has sufficient access to the computer, legitimately or not, the user's privacy may be compromised. This could be avoided by disabling logging, or by clearing logs regularly.

  1. Data privacy is a valid concern. Companies can provide a web site privacy policy that informs users that cookies are being stored and read on their computer by the web site when they visit it. Blocking or disabling cookies may not be feasible as many web sites won't function properly without them.

Businesses should adopt opt-in rather than opt-out model of information collection. This means users should tick on a box to give their permission for businesses to collect and use their information. Opt-out model means the business assumes that customers give their permission by ticking all the boxes for them first.
